Cruising on the houseboat is truly a rejuvenating experience to soothe the mind, body and soul. While there are plenty of events dampening the spirits, thrilling adventure can elevate the spirits of persons.

This weekend I had a riot in the houseboats cruising Punnammada Lake. What a glorious panorama to gape at!

The boats cruised on the glistening waters and finally we were lost amidst an entire territory of water. Truly water, water, everywhere...

Weekend adventures

Cruising the backwaters of Alleppey

Long time after hectic schedules at work and home, I planned an elaborate outing to enjoy thoroughly the much awaited weekend holidays. I started my outing at the backwaters of Alleppey after boarding a houseboat. The boat started gliding along the glistening deep waters of the Punnamada lake laced with lush greenery. The verdant shores of the lake were a contrast to the transparent volume of water carrying the boat and pushing it forward. I shot the beautiful locale and recorded the natural splendor of the glistening deep lake. The warm sun in the morning made the cruise most comfortable with ample heat to feel bright and energetic.

There were plenty of houseboats in the huge lake both empty and also carrying plenty of tourists. Everyone enjoyed their respective cruises and explored the lake and the surrounding landscapes. There were restaurants and resorts located along the shores of the lake. While tourism is becoming the major part of the economy of Kerala, many resorts are functioning near the backwaters to entertain the tourists and provide them exemplary and lasting experiences of Kerala.

Weekend at the backwaters of Kumarakom

Water, Water Everywhere...

This weekend I decided to succumb to the beckoning backwaters of Kumarakom, Kerala. The water-bound evergreen location is a splendid choice of destination to relax the mind, body and soul after the busy and hectic routines of the week. It is quick ride from the busy Kochi and is already the favourite destination for the urban and rural crowd alike.
House boats and smaller boats are readily available at cheap rate for the visitors to serenade the green luscious waters of Kumarakom. Simply settle your ride with the friendly and helpful guide and enjoy a rejuvenating ride. Watch the different rare breeds of birds plunging into water as your boat glides along the green waters. Many tourists simply love the spacious large houseboats for its amenities and enjoy the sun, water and thrill of being lost in a large world of water. It is quite an experience to be aloof in the vast stretch of water in a solitary boat.

Easy to reach, affordable, Kumarakom is a true retreat with its tranquil waters and large expanse of green, deep water in the midst of green landscape. While visiting Kerala, do not miss out of this locale and regret much later….

Celebrating Onam

Onam for new festivities...

Onam is round the corner and there is plenty to decide… finding new clothes, buying grocery for the Onam feast, arranging crackers and more flurry of activities that the harvest festival in Kerala is engaging the natives in. Come the month of September and the natives in Kerala are busy planning for the famous harvest festival in the green country. Onam is a totally green festival from the large green banana leaf serving the vegan delicacies to the copious amount of flowers decorating the entrances of the homes.

Women are clad in new clothes, and decorate their hair with large bunches of jasmine flowers tethered in garlands to give them a faint aroma and diffuse their washed hairs. They shop beautiful sarees for the festival and drape themselves in the golden and cream sarees special to the harvest occasion.

Onam is among the oldest festivals in the world celebrated to welcome the legendary king, Mahabali. The benevolent king was sent to abyss by the wicked Vamana who was jealous of the popularity of the magnanimous King Mahabali. Finally, Mahabali pleaded one last wish which was to visit his people during Onam. From the harvest festival and the welcome to the King, Onam is already become the integral part of the lives and culture of the Keralities. Even while their lifestyle is changing, families now get together to celebrate the festival denoting their rich culture and ample heritage. They forget their financial constraints and celebrate the festival .This splendid festival unites the Keralities unanimously in a singular spirit, simplicity to flaunt their rich culture and ample heritage.
