Ethics of shopping

Cheating or shopping!!!

There are plenty of beautiful things to chance upon while shopping. And we are rightly tempted to buy them and own them. While bargaining is a smart way to shop, we should also make sure that the shoppers are benefitted while selling the products. It is truly surprising when bold shoppers cheat the naive vendors. At the end of tough bargaining sessions, poor vendors are forced to give in to the demands of the bargainers and they even forget their tiny share of profits.

Always have a rough idea on the cost of the products while bargaining on the products. Many poor shopkeepers compromise or sacrifice meagre profits to satisfy the demands of customers. This can happen often when the customers are uncertain or confused on the prices of the product. They end up arguing indiscriminately on the price of the products and try to include the products in their budget. Cut-throat bargaining evades the justice in shopping. Moreover, while desperately trying to slash the price of products, most shoppers compromise on the quality of the products and buy them while prices are comparatively lower. They tend to buy the cheap products than the better quality products that are durable.

Even vendors have the right to get their share of profits especially while they are in need of money. Avoid greedy vendors but ensure justice to the poor vendors opting for an honest livelihood selling products at reasonable prices. Now onwards ensure that you maintain the ethics of shopping.

It is not right to indulge in shopping to simply procure products lucratively by compulsive bargaining. Even compulsive shopping is not expected to be in this manner. It is this weekend that I realized these matters. and carried out the ethics of shopping in practice. While visiting Vasco Da Gama's tomb, I met many vendors eagerly displaying the new and beautiful products. Since I shop frequently, I found the new beautiful products are not cheap. But suddenly I realized that the products are better quality and many customers would be ready to pay and shop them. Hence I politely excused myself and allowed the vendor to wait for eager shoppers.

I was thoroughly proud that I practized such decency and maintained the ethics of shopping. Yes..we live in a human society where kindness has a significant play. Show kindness and also experience the delight of kindness showered by others around us.

Rich heritage of Fort Kochi

 Weekend luncheon at Fort Kochi

Fort Kochi is a prime locale in Kerala with a foreign heritage. Even today the locale is unfolding
the legacy of the foreign rulers and is the favourite destinations from tourits across the globe. Tourist fondly walk down the lanes of the locale with plenty of monuments such as tomb of Vasco Da Gama, Dutch Palace at Mattancherry and Jew street. The nostalgia evoked by the planned locale, its many street shops, beautiful beach and maritime ambience are all propelling this place to be most interesting and appealing to tourists in all seasons.

While visiting Fort Kochi, I shopped lucratively from the vendors showcasing both their antique and latest collections and spent all my time watching the huge cargo ships passing close to shores of Fort Kochi.

Amazing ships and I was left ogling at them!!!

Weekend adventures

Cruising the backwaters of Alleppey

Long time after hectic schedules at work and home, I planned an elaborate outing to enjoy thoroughly the much awaited weekend holidays. I started my outing at the backwaters of Alleppey after boarding a houseboat. The boat started gliding along the glistening deep waters of the Punnamada lake laced with lush greenery. The verdant shores of the lake were a contrast to the transparent volume of water carrying the boat and pushing it forward. I shot the beautiful locale and recorded the natural splendor of the glistening deep lake. The warm sun in the morning made the cruise most comfortable with ample heat to feel bright and energetic.

There were plenty of houseboats in the huge lake both empty and also carrying plenty of tourists. Everyone enjoyed their respective cruises and explored the lake and the surrounding landscapes. There were restaurants and resorts located along the shores of the lake. While tourism is becoming the major part of the economy of Kerala, many resorts are functioning near the backwaters to entertain the tourists and provide them exemplary and lasting experiences of Kerala.

Discovering Coconut rice

Delicious coconut rice for luncheon....

This weekend I discovered a new delicacy namely  coconut rice… I travelled to Fort Kochi and found a moderate, clean restaurant called Mareena in Fort Kochi. I went upstairs to the comfortable seats on the first floor overlooking the splendid stretch of sea. I looked through the menu and found the dish Coconut rice and ordered it with butter chicken. The dish is prepared with fried thin slices of fresh coconut and served with the garnish of long slices of toasted coconut among the long grains of white rice. The quaint taste of sauted coconut and mild spices leave a lingering taste in the mouth of the rice eaters. The dish is a truly nice pick for lunch on hot sunny days.

Coconut rice recipe
  • Cook rice and cool completely.
  • Heat ghee or oil in a pan, add cumin, mustard, dals and cashews. When the dal turns golden, green chili, curry leaves and dried red chili. Sprinkle hing.
  • Toast the coconut. Add coconut, rice and salt. Off the heat. Stir all the ingredients and warm it.
  • Serve coconut rice with a curry or yogurt.
  • Adding sauted pineapple pieces can also improve the taste easily.

Try the delicacy with buttered chicken or Chicken roast for a perfect lunch.

Seated comfortably in the half open Mareena restaurant I truly enjoyed my weekend lunch tasting Coconut rice and alternatively glancing at the huge cargo ships and containers gliding along the surfing waves of the rough Arabian sea.

This weekend lunch was a maritime experience of fresh flavours, new tastes and rich experience.

Mareena restaurant is truly inexpensive and has plenty of delicacies waiting to be discovered by the shrewd and adventurous diners picking the breezy maritime restaurants for divine luncheon within the budget. Do not miss out on this restaurant while visiting Kochi, coastal Kerala.

ATM frauds are common now!

Choose safe banking...

ATM frauds are becoming increasingly common especially while there are a multitude of naïve card holders to be victimized. Police are already on alert about the frauds causing theft of large amount of cash. While the ATM users are increasing in India, the frauds are also multiplying. It is quite easy for the scammers to steal and cheat the confused new ATM card holders. Many of them are unaware of the different quick ways that the scammers and frauds can vandalize the funds of the innocent ATM card holders. Recently even in Kerala, Police nabbed gangsters indulging in ATM frauds and robbed the innocent natives using advanced devices. These scammers used spying devices to gain maximum information about the ATM cards of many persons and easily victimized them.

ATM frauds are becoming the common crime while a large fraction of the population is using ATMs extensively for drawing money. The introduction of ATMs was welcomed eagerly by the urban population as they were elated at the convenience of procuring and transacting money. Even while the banks are not operating, the public could draw money whenever they required. Moreover, as the frequency of the ATMs increased, it was easily possible for the public to draw money wherever they are located or even while travelling. ATM kiosks became rampant across the length and breadth of India. Most public were delighted at the prospects of the development and found their country developing parallel to the Western countries while multiplying ATMs and shopping malls besides other necessary amenities. It became possible for the public to collect their cash even while the banks were not functioning, be it beyond their working hours or on holidays. The public could easily depend on the ATMs even during odd hours to draw money.

ATM s soon became a necessity for the public to collect the cash as they required. Many started depositing large amount of cash in their account and drawing them through ATM debit cards for its security and convenience. While earlier carrying stacks of currency attracted crime, later the debit cards with high amount of cash attracted thefts and frauds. Earlier, it was difficult for other persons to know the amount of cash available in the ATM cards and this diverted crimes.
But later ATM scammers devised methods to trace the confidential information of the ATM cards and they easily started stealing the funds and victimizing innocent public. Now ATM users have to be very careful if they want to safely draw cash from their bank accounts.

Here are some precautions that can prevent ATM frauds.

·        Always keep your PIN number confidential.
·        Do not communicate your PIN to any other person
·        Do not write your PIN on the back of your card
·        Keep a track of your transactions
·        Inform the bank if there are deductions besides your withdrawal
·        Do not give your ATM cards to other persons
·        Carry your ATM cards with you always.
